There are quite a few companies here who are the providers of EMR, but EMR is still catching up here with the govt initiatives of digitisation of the hospitals. in the private sector, its mostly outpatients that add to the numbers and a lesser inpatients so not everything here is online.
however please do email me your ideas about EMR and we can see how we can be mutually beneficial.
Hi Vijay
In doing a database for mortality and morbidity data, you need to define the fields that you would need. the data for the ICD will be used in a masterfile and linked to the mortality and morbidity data as a relational table. I am not good with PHP and SQL, but in developing the database you need to first identify which fields are needed for the database. Using SQL or PHP is similar to using any other language for developing the database. I am used to working in Ms-Access. The latter, however becomes unwieldy when your database has more than 300 000 records. The database will will be dependent on whether you are designing a database for a specific facility/clinic or for a group- of facilities. For a facility alone you would need personal data of the client, the wards of the facility, clinical data and linked to the clinical data you would have your morbidity and mortality data as a field or as a seperate table. Please send me your email address to droman@pgwc.gov.za, so that I can provide you with more info.

Sorry for my belated response. I had difficulty logging onto the informatics forum site. I would need more information on what you want to use it for. If is just looking up the codes, then the information can imported from the CD's that are supplied by the WHO. If more then please email me at dlroman@telkomsa.net or droman@pgwc.gov.za
I presume you are looking at ICD10. It is accessible free of cost at WHO web site. if you need any further help, write to suryanathg@gmail.com or call me at 09177131331.
Recently i saw a drug database along with ICD 9 in the market somewhere. But i don't think you are not looking at ICD 9.
