As the iPad can use existing software for the iPhone and iPod Touch, there are already loads of medical software applications out there.

Current iPhone medical software companies include:

I'm hoping for more products from Metacognitives Software along the lines of their 250 Credits and eportfolio products.

well..maybe.. im actually hoping the world at large is initially underwhelmed and fails to recognize what a revolutionary product the ipad is - to allow me a little more time to develop some ebook products

Computers may have helped ruin music but Apple has opened the door to independent textbook publishers to develop and distribute their titles cheaply easily and relatively free from piracy

that's probably a good thing

Yes, I think this device is really hitting the e-book trend as it grows rapidly over the next couple of years. Hopefully we'll also see non-book software that is useful too - things like calculators, PACS viewers and that kind of thing.

My interest is in the design and functionality of this box. As our app development efforts focus on online/realtime web based EMR's..., this may trump some of our side interest in creating a platform for the Iphone. I have some real issues being locked into a single phone service provider (AT&T). I'll know more as reviews begin to appear. For now..., things like on-board storage are not a priority. For us, everything happens at the server level. We simply need stable internet access. I'll bet a lot of peripheral funtionality happens via bluetooth (printing, scanning, etc). It'll be 2nd or 3rd gen anyway by the time we get to the platform development stage for this beast. Right now MS is giving us its usual bump and grind action! Thank God Vista is history!!!

Diaz,

This is a nightmare that we are hoping for good news as well. Here at EasyMedFile.com we produce Web-based EMRs in English, Spanish, and Portuguese and due to this problem with text recognition we are reviewing most parts in our version in Spanish and Portuguese to see if we can make things better. More buttons and punching on situations to reduce typing in. However, everybody knows that English will always come first and for those like us who work with other languages it is left the option to hope for the best.

I will keep my eyes open since we are exactly in this process right now, and please let me know as well, in the event you find something that pleases you more than what you currently have in place.

Cheers,

Ed

Business vs Entertaining
Apple is clear and always make sure to mention that its first commitment is with the Entertaining side of its audience. However, the business is the one that really put these little nice toys to prove themselves as far as efficiency. Had the entertaining not made the big bucks as it has, I am very confident that the business would have its well deserved attention over the new trends. We just have to remember that with all the economic crisis out there, people are looking more for a chill out. I applaud Apple. Very clever move. Now, let's see what is left for us on the business side.

Hi

Some of the medical apps that I have on my ipod touch are:

Merck Manual :The Merck Manual for essential information on diagnosing and treating medical disorders. The trusted content of the Professional Edition addresses thousands of diseases and treatments, features clinical approaches to each category of disorder, and provides specific guidance on patient evaluation. It is the work of more than 300 independent contributors, all recognized experts in their fields.

General Procedure consult: Procedures Consult features a dynamic blend of high-quality expert video, illustrations, animations and text that helps physicians, medical residents and students prepare for, perform and test their knowledge of the most common medical procedures encountered in a clinical setting.

Human Body Advanced Encyclopedia 3D Anatomy

Merriam-webster Medical Dictionary : over 35000 entries

ICD-9 coder (Looking forward for the realease of ICD 10 app !)

Ichart EMR : A complete mobile Electronic Medical Record system to track and manage patients with a simple ‘touch & tap’ interface.
Designed by doctors for any healthcare provider that needs to keep patient information organized.
- Tracks patients within Hospital, Clinic or Homecare settings.
- Write prescriptions with a built-in drug reference w/drug interaction checking w/ePrescribing option.
- Track labs and studies with built in lab menus
- Lookup and capture CPT4 and ICD9 codes – all included
- Write SOAP and Procedure notes w/built-in smart menus for fast note generation
- Sync data to online datacenter for further editing and printing and secure backup.
Included Web-based datacenter application includes

Since all the apps on ipod n iphone can be used on the ipad, it will be very useful for all healthcare and allied health professionals....but the issue of multitasking is a biig drawback for the iPad.
