Hello Chris:

It is great to to see a good forum with great people in here.

Beside practicing as a primary care physician in Urgent care and ER for last 8 years, I have completed my fellow in medical management through American College of Physician Executives and University of Southern California. I also had finished my duty in the Air Force after volunteered for the Katrina in Biloxi and helped thoudsand of wounded soldiers from Iraq. It was the greatest time in my carreer.

As an entrepreneur at this point, I have recruited a great team of physician specialists and 20 IT engineers who have developed an innovative platform with built-in PHRS, Web Diagnosis, Medical Content and Telemedicine Kiosks. We are launching in Summer 2009. Please give us mental support as we believe in doing great things for uninsured and underinsured patients through a "Hybrid Social Business" model.................. Well, life is great so far given my wife and one 5 y.o. daughter are providing full support. I love what I am doing.

OK, this is the Nguyen's family in Peoria, Arizona. Hope I will learn more about others as time evolve.

Hello, everyone -

it is good to see such a wide range of interests and expertise from all parts of the world reflected in this discussion thread.

I am Dr Peter Murray (the 'Dr' bit reflecting the PhD, rather than medical qualifications). I started out my health and informatics career as a coronary care nurse over 22 years ago, and then moved into health informatics in practical terms before finding out what the term meant.

My interests continue to be in nursing informatics and wider health informatics areas, with particular focus on free/libre and open source software, e-learning and Web 2.0 potential within the health domain.

I have been active in IMIA (www.imia.org) for several years, within the nursing informatics special interest group, then as UK rep. to IMIA and am now on the IMIA Board as Vice President for Strategic Planning.

As with Roy Alger (see profile), I am keen to promote medinfo2010, which will be held in Cape town, South Africa in September 2010 (www.medinfo2010.org) and would encourage as many of you as are able to submit papers etc and attend the event.

My online CV/biopic is at www.peter-murray.net.

Hi all, this looks like a really good group: very diverse geographically yet all interested in one general topic.

I am perhaps not the typical member since I am not involved in anything EMR/PHR related. I am an entrepreneur working on the problem of scheduling medical residents. But the entire field of Health informatics is fascinating to me.

I look forward to enjoyable discussions!

Cheers from sunny Los Angeles.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Caroline and I am a nursing student at Miami University of Ohio. I am currently taking an informatics course and I'm looking to learn more about this field. Why did you chose to work in the informatics field?

"Nursing informatics is the multidisciplinary scientific endeavor of analyzing, formalizing and modeling how nurses collect and manage data, process data into information and knowledge, make knowledge-based decisions and inferences for patient care, and use this empirical and experiential knowledge in order to broaden the scope and enhance the quality of their professional practice.

Hi everybody,

I am an Internal Medicine physician who also teaches Medical Informatics at the University of West Florida. I will retire from the Navy this summer and spend more time teaching and doing research.

I'll also be releasing the 2009 Medical Informatics: Practical Guide for the Healthcare Professional. It doesn't look like I will be bored in my retirement. I look forward to to discussing issues on the forum with you all.

Hello Everyone,

I have been part of this field for almost all of my career. I have graduated in Computer Science and was part of development of one of the modern day EMR. With focus on providing better and fairly priced solutions, I believe it would not be possible without open source technologies. My experience with working on that project has got me excited to take my learnings even further.

Currently I am part of Indian startup Sushruts, which is developing a modern EMR solution with modern agile practices.

My association with this community mainly is to know more, learn more and execute more of informatics for improving care all the way down.
