Hiya all,
I am Igbagbo Akintade from Nigeria. Studied environmental biology as first degree though I am totally into IT (certifications in Oracle Database 10g, Cisco, SAS, etc), I am interested in health informatics/telemedicine because it is innovative and somewhat creative. I met Dr Rod Elford; the first Canadian to go into telemedicine in Canada in 2005 and that really got me interested. Though I have taken some online courses in telemedicine but I'll love to have an MSc in Health informatics/telemedicine soon enough.

Ciao!

Hello everyone,
My name is Danko Vidovich, I am an MD, neurosurgeon and radiologist. Specialized in endovascular surgical neuroangiography. Currently my interest is electronic health records and diagnostic imaging. Of recent, witnessing vanishing of a system of values, I feel we all must proactively cocreate the new.

Web based, patient owned and controlled data banks are starting. Patients need to be made aware that it is them who are legal owners of the digital data ( images, films ). Accordingly, they need to be kept by the patient, and in one place. Access to the health record and images is given exclusively by the patient, and the existing regulations need no change.

The process in diagnostic imaging: First the demographics are written by hand into a form, history, relevant clinical data , allergies, previous diagnostic imaging studies. This handwritten form is then typed into a program, that is used to print out requisition form for the exam, and later for billing purposes and storage of the radiology report, coding etc. Then the exam is performed, i.e. MRI of the shoulder, and the patient leaves. XXX I think here is the point to be changed. Now, patient is told - your doctor will get the report from our radiologist within couple of days, so go talk to your doctor that sent you here. But not now, in couple of days. My suggestion would be that the patient leaves with data of his/her examination or that permission/consent is given to transfer the exam directly into the web based, secured location where the EHR resides. Then the patient decides who the caregivers/interpreters/consultants will be.

I am grateful to Chris Paton for starting this group, and would like our co-creation to result in a product that will be result of our collective knowledge and effort.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, suggestions...

Danko

Danko, I bravo you for being my alliance. Think of the patients first.............. I hope my colleague will not look at me as a traitor in 2009-1010 once we launch our MD24plus platform and Telemedicine Kiosks. Are you interested in TeleRadiology/Ultrasound? I live in Arizona. Email me at vnredcross@yahoo.com . We can have a good conversation.

Hello Everyone,

My name is Puspa and I have a MBBS background from India with a MS in Healthcare Informatics UK. I reside in Dubai UAE.
My interest is with Electronic Medical Records particularly in the area of clinical decision support to improve patient safety. I am also interested in informatics education for the healthcare professionals. I am looking for opportunities in Dubai and will be interested to hear from healthcare IT companies or healthcare service organisations.
Currently I am consulting with a clinic to help them define their needs and assess the available technology.

Cheers / Puspa

Hello Puspa,
We have developed a computerised clinical decision support system, TREAT, that has underwent extensive trials in the clinical setting in Europe and elsewhere. It focuses on appropriate use of antibitoics within hospitals which is a major problem according to WHO, Cochrane a.o. The system is integrated into HIS and EHR's and is calibrated to local conditions, i.e. specific pathogen prevalence, resistance rates etc. I attach some material for your info.

Sorry for the delayed reply Hans Christian
and thank you for the information.
May I enquire if the product is being marketed and if it is well received?
Is it meant only for hospitals or can this be available for outpatient clinics etc?

Thank you / Puspa
