Hello friends, I am a Medical Doctor (Consulting Family Physician and Consultant in Medical Informatics) from Pune, India. I got an interest in Medical informatics after visiting US and working there in Ultrasonography department in one hospital in Florida. After returning to India I completed my Diploma in Computer Management (DCM) with flying colours from University of Pune. Then I started my own consulting business in Medical Informatics named C-Doc Inc. I was one among the firsts who started working in Medical Informatics faculty in India. We did the development of many Software Systems for most of the Medical Specialities and Superspecialities, and allied businesses like pharmacies and diagnostic centres, after doing thorough and careful research of the client requirements and medical database models for about last 17 years under the name "Panacea Clinic Management Software" and "Hospower Hospital Management Software". At the same time I studied further and did my Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing Management and then in Systems Management, again with flying colours from University of Pune. In the year 1999 we had to suspend our operations due to lack of trained manpower and then I joined MDIndia a Medical Vortal in the capacity of Business Development Manager and got developed a Medical Vertical Portal called www.mdindia.com After resigning MDIndia we once again resumed the operations of our business firm with the help of an angel investor and one friend Dr. Aniket Joshi, a qualified Medical Informatician from Monash University, Australia. In between I did my certifications in Software Engineering by Microsoft and then Software Test Engineering (CSTE) from QAI (USA), a premier and respectable software testing certifying authority, worldwide. Since then we have made many modifications and upgrades in the software platforms giving due consideration to changes in operating systems and hardware platforms. At present we are working on a comprehensive solution using SAP and Microsoft Navision in partnership with a very senior ERP Consultant having an experience of 20+ years in this field and also with the help of a leading university in Pune and a mid-size ERP software company having its offices in Pune, Mumbai and Singapore. Unfortunately the response in India to Medical Informatics at conceptual level is very limited even though the awareness to computers is there, hence now we are concentrating on conducting training workshops in medical colleges, social forums, pharma companies, welfare institutions, multi-speciality hospitals and medical associations to spread awareness about Medical and Health Informatics.

Dr. Milind Datar, Pune, India.

Good day to you all. I am Capt (Dr) Abraham Sunday Ayeni. I am presently doing my residency training in Paediatrics at University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, Nigeria. I am also an officer of the Nigerian Army. I was in in Darfur, Sudan for Peacekeeping exercise in 2005. I am very green in Medical Informatics and know only very little about this very attractive and vast area of medicine and information technology. As I progress in my training, I intend joining many reasearch and information technology activities. Our Health Insurance programme is still very new in Nigeria, I ll definitely be joining efforts to expand and improve it after my course. I therefore need to remain in this forum to achieve these. Once again I wish you all the best.
Dr. AS Ayeni, Ilorin, Nigeria

Excellent thread.

I am a Professor of Medicine at the University of Vermont where I see patients, teach clinical and translational research methods and do research. My research in Technology Assessment and Quality of care led me to design a system to improve diabetes care for adults in primary care. The system was developed and tested in a randomized trial with support from the US National Institutes of Health. When it became clear that the system works, the University asked me (and two other faculty colleagues) to spin it off as a small company to make it widely available around the world. So, much to my surprise, I am now an HIT entrepreneur (www. Vermedx.com).

Current IT activities include operating and improving the Vermedx Diabetes Information System, developing other decision support tools for diabetes and other chronic conditions, developing infrastructure for population-based clinical research (registries), and blogging about information exchange to support clinical decision making (www.healthinfoex.blogspot.com).

Thanks,

Ben
