Hi everyone,

I am currently a student working towards my Bachelor of Science in Health Information Technology at the University of Victoria, B.C, Canada. I have taken two years of general science and one year of Health Informatics, and I am currently taking some summer classes.

As someone recently introduced to this area of study, does anyone have any advice or words of wisdom?

I also was wondering if anyone could tell me about the different directions I could go in terms of employment? I would prefer something with some biology/science involved.

Thanks!

Hi,

I am Athar and I am from Pakistan.

When I was at medical school I always thought of how easy it is to link all data and each and every department in a hospital electronically but no one even care. I was unaware of such field  then but now as I know I am enrolling in to Msc Health informatics.

I am good at computers and programming from my childhood and now as I am already a medical doctor, It is best choice for me to pursue my career in health informatics.

It is nice to know about someone from Pakistan interested in Health Informatics...

Robert Reed...I've worked in a student health clinic at the University of Texas in Austin for nearly 15 years.  Mostly I've been purely IT but lately I'm making the shift to more Health IT centric job roles including working directly with the clinicians and other staff in the clinic to understand their workflow and how IT can assist with that.
