A Social Network for Health Informatics Professionals and Students
I am a health informatics student just about to do my dissertation. I am planning to do my dissertation in risk management ,particularly on POST OPERATIVE Pulmonary Embolism rates in our Trust. But I am really struggling to frame the research question or take the topics in a direction. Please advise me on this.

I find the PICO method a good way to frame a research question:
P: What is the Population that has this problem (it could be an individual Patient)
I: What is the Intervention designed to solve the problem
C: What is the Comparison Intervention (this could be the "Gold Standard" or a placebo)
O: What is the Outcome that should be measured to see if the intervention has worked.
You can use your answers to the PICO questions to find relevant articles in the literature and come up with a robust analysis of the problem you looking at.

Have a go at formulating your question using PICO.
