A Social Network for Health Informatics Professionals and Students
Hello all. I am a surgical oncologist, currently working on a MSc in Health Informatics at Mahidol University in Thailand. I'm interested in alternative medical informatics and ways to encode and manage traditional medical data, as a means to better integrate these systems into mainstream practice.
Does anyone have any ideas on where I can get more information about this or if anyone is working along these lines.
Thanks in advance.
I don't know which alternative medicine you are looking at. In India, AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) have achieved mainstream status.
I heard, someone developed a good SW for Homeopathy or Uanai, can't remember well. If that is your interest, i will try to find out more details.
I have written a couple of articles on the need for health informatics to embrace cam and some challenges in doing so. Co-existence of medical systems seems inevitable as globalisation advances. I'm not so sure that the systems will necessarily integrate. Articles attached to this post - Andrew
Great article. I agree that integration of the different medical systems is unlikely, and probably undesirable. I'm interested in the concept of making information from the different traditions available on a common platform for patients and clinicians and providing some sort of DSS to facilitate the decision process. Argument visualization, which you highlight in your paper, is one such tool.
I would also be interested to look at this in the context of low income countries where allopathic options may be less available thus cam options may need to be weighted for greater significance.
Thank you again
I am also interested in this topic and would appreciate if people can post more articles on it.
